Both President William Ruto's administration and the opposition are actively vying for the substantial 3.2 million votes from the Western Kenya bloc ahead of the 2027 General Election. As part of his strategy, Ruto is reportedly implementing a new approach to garner support by offering monthly stipends to village elders in what is called the 'Tutam' plan. At the same time, Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata is under scrutiny following his attendance at an ODM-linked rally, sparking debate about his 2027 political strategy amidst shifting alliances in the Mt Kenya voting bloc. Kang'ata has also become the first elected political ally of the Linda Mwananchi movement in the Mt Kenya region.
