Plea-taking has been deferred for eight Utumishi Girls Academy students charged with the murder of sixteen schoolmates in a dormitory fire on May 28. The High Court in Kibera ordered mental and age assessments before they can stand trial. The court ruled that proceedings would be held virtually as the eight suspects remain held in police custody. Additionally, the same Kibera High Court barred the media from virtually attending the ongoing Utumishi Girls murder case. These related rulings affect how the public can follow the high-profile case involving the deaths of sixteen students at the boarding school.
