Transport Paralysed Along Outer Ring as Protests Erupt - June 2026
Protests erupted in Nairobi's Kiamaiko, Kariobangi North, and Huruma areas on Tuesday, June 30, leading to disruptions along the Outer Ring Road as police deployed teargas to disperse demonstrators. A significant traffic jam has also paralyzed the Southern Bypass following a multiple truck collision near the Thogoto area on Tuesday afternoon, reportedly involving brake failure, leading to injuries and extensive delays. President William Ruto has unveiled a Ksh45 billion plan to curb traffic congestion in Nairobi by implementing a real-time intelligent traffic management system across over 210 road junctions. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has also issued a warning of delays on its iTax platform due to a last-minute rush by taxpayers to file their 2025 income tax returns on the deadline.
