Interior CS Murkomen Orders Probe Into Ol Kalou By-Election Violence - July 2026
Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered a thorough investigation into alleged violence during the Ol Kalou by-election, stressing that anyone found responsible for causing disruptions would face arrest. The vote tallying process is underway in Ol Kalou following the parliamentary by-election in Nyandarua County. Chaos and tension marred the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election as armed and masked individuals clashed with residents. Armed hooded men in SUVs shot in the air and patrolled polling stations, while other masked men lobbed tear gas at crowds. Additionally, chaos erupted as armed, hooded men assaulted journalists and seized their cameras at AC Primary School polling station. The Luo Elders Council has separately strongly criticized political leaders for violence witnessed in Kisumu city, stating the disturbances could have been avoided if leaders had acted with wisdom and adhered to the law.
