Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia was arrested by DCI detectives on August 3, shortly after reporting he was being followed by un-uniformed individuals. Earlier that day, Kaguchia claimed that over 40 heavily armed, masked men surrounded Royal Media Services headquarters in Nairobi in an attempt to arrest him after he appeared on a live show. The MP is a Gachagua ally, linking to broader political tensions involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who have been accused of undermining the Mt Kenya community by opposing President William Ruto before the end of his term. Meanwhile, Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku has publicly accused Gachagua and Uhuru of portraying Mt Kenya as unable to keep promises.
