The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) attributes the slow resolution of cartel cases to a significant staff shortage. The agency takes an average of three years to conclude investigations.

• The CAK has only 75 staff members serving a population comparable to the UK's, which has around 1,130 staff at its Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
• CAK Director General David Kemei stated that the CAK's timeline of three years for cartel cases is comparable to other global regulators, despite operating with fewer resources and a budget of approximately Sh700 million.
• The CAK has invested Sh45 million in a forensic laboratory and is reviewing penalty procedures to strengthen enforcement against anti-competitive practices.

Call drops and billing disputes were the most frequent complaints lodged by telecommunications consumers with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) during the fourth quarter of the 2025/26 financial year.

• The CA received 239 voice and SMS complaints, resolving 167 cases.
• Key complaint areas included call termination (16 cases), quality of service (13 cases), and SMS billing/charges (75 cases).
• The report highlights growing consumer expectations for high-quality, uninterrupted communication services as they become more crucial for daily life and economic activity.
