Gachagua denies coalition with weak parties - August 2026
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated he will not engage in coalition talks with political parties that lack a solidified political base in the Mount Kenya region. He refuted claims that he urged other opposition leaders to dissolve their parties and join his, instead advising them to concentrate on strengthening their own political entities. The Democracy for the Citizens Party leader is advocating for unity within the opposition following internal disagreements, having softened his stance on smaller opposition parties in the Mt Kenya region. Leaders from the National Restoration Movement have strongly condemned the increasing political violence during campaign rallies across the country.
