The Kenyan government will import 25 million bags of maize to address a looming food shortage caused by widespread drought and crop failure across the country.

• The import consists of approximately 2.3 billion kilogrammes of maize.
• Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the decision.
• The government is also promoting investment in irrigated agriculture, with the Galana Kulalu food security project being a key initiative.

The Union of Kenya Civil Servants (UKCS) has reassured its members that efforts are ongoing to implement a new salary and allowance structure, following concerns that it was not reflected in the August 2026 government payroll.

• The dispute arose after the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) issued a circular on July 17, 2026, detailing a revised remuneration structure for civil servants.
• UKCS challenged the implementation, citing a lack of collective bargaining negotiations for the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
• The Employment and Labour Relations Court declined to suspend the implementation, stating the SRC circular allowed for implementation through the collective bargaining process.
