After 55-day Conclave, Gachagua Declares Readiness for 2027 Presidency - August 2026

After a 55-day period of reflection, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared his readiness to compete for the Kenyan presidency in 2027. Former Deputy President Gachagua has stated that Kenyans are encouraging him to run for president in the 2027 General Election. He has ruled out any zoning arrangement with allied parties, asserting that the DCP will field candidates across the country. Gachagua has defended political competition within the Opposition Coalition, stating each party should have the freedom to nominate candidates. He has spoken about wanting to unite Mt Kenya following consultations at Wamunyoro. However, political analyst Muita Ndungu suggests that Gachagua's inclusion on the ballot could significantly benefit President William Ruto's re-election campaign.
