Government Cuts Fertiliser Price to KSh 2,000, Subsidises Maize Seed - August 2026

The Kenyan government has announced a significant reduction in the price of subsidised fertiliser and introduced a subsidy for maize seed to ease the financial burden on farmers. President William Ruto announced these measures as part of efforts to enhance food production and address hunger in Kenya. The National Biosafety Authority is implementing measures to expedite GMO approvals and streamline regulatory processes to significantly enhance food security. Separately, the Kenyan government is launching an investigation into widespread tea scale fraud, vowing to take decisive action against those deliberately short-changing farmers in the tea sector.
