Standard Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich was abducted by armed men along the Gilgil-Nakuru road on Tuesday night, September 1, while traveling to Nakuru. He was later found dumped near Masinga Dam, shaken but safe. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is demanding an immediate investigation into the alleged abduction, with CPJ Africa Director Angela Quintal condemning the incident as a shameful indictment of the Kenya Kwanza administration. The Media Council of Kenya (MCK), Kenya Editors Guild, KANU Party, and human rights organizations including KHRC and Amnesty are demanding investigations and arrests, highlighting growing concerns over impunity for attacks against journalists. Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) spokesperson Odhiambo Otieno condemned the actions as shameful, accusing the regime of attempting to intimidate the media.
