Recent data from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) reveals Safaricom’s M-Pesa is losing its market share in Kenya’s mobile money sector, while Airtel Money continues to grow significantly. This shift signals increased competition in a market long dominated by M-Pesa.

• M-Pesa’s market share dropped to 90.8 percent in the quarter ending March 2025, down from 94.9 percent the previous year.
• Airtel Money’s market share rose to 9.1 percent from 5.1 percent year-on-year.
• Overall mobile money subscriptions increased by 7.3% to 45.4 million, reflecting continued reliance on mobile financial services in Kenya.
