Speaking in Bungoma County, Wetang’ula condemned unethical practices and called for transparency and accountability from officials.

• Wetang’ula is advocating for farmers to remove corrupt officials, citing instances where officials benefit significantly more than the farmers themselves, particularly in the coffee sector in areas like Mount Elgon and Kimilili.
• The call for action comes amid a backdrop of resilience in Kenya’s coffee industry, with prices rising 3% in March, reaching Ksh1,184 per kg for clean coffee.
• The challenges extend beyond coffee, with 58 SACCOs across Kenya at risk of auction due to defaulting on Ksh1.36 billion in loans from the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (Kuscco), highlighting a significant shortfall of around Ksh987.86 million.
