Highway Secondary School is poised to challenge a 22-year jinx in Kenyan secondary school football, aiming to become the first team since Kamukunji Secondary School in 2002 to defend the national title. The reigning champions will compete in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term Two games in Kakamega.

• The last school to defend the national football title was Kamukunji Secondary School in 2002, led by then-coach Peter Orero and captain Macdonald Mariga.
• Highway Secondary School, making their third national appearance, previously won silver at the 2022 national and East Africa games.
• The team faces strong competition, including St Joseph’s High School Kitale, Serani Secondary School, and Kirangari Secondary School in Group B, with Musingu High School being a favorite in Group A.
