The Postal Corporation of Kenya (Posta Kenya) is facing an economic crisis as its liabilities are nearing the Sh10 billion mark, as revealed by the latest Auditor General's report. The parastatal continues to operate with a negative working capital and significant deficits, raising doubts about its ability to remain a going concern.

• Posta Kenya's total liabilities stood at Sh9.6 billion as of June 30, 2023.
• The Auditor General, Nancy Gathungu, reported a net operating deficit of Sh1.09 billion for the 2023/2024 financial year.
• A significant portion of the liabilities, Sh96.8 million, are contingent liabilities from a 1999 debt of the defunct Kenya Postal and Telecommunication Corporation.
• The entity is among six State agencies earmarked for restructuring by President William Ruto's administration to reduce reliance on the exchequer.
