Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been freed after the High Court ordered his release on bond, nearly six months after his jailing over a Ksh588 million graft case.

• Waititu was granted release on a Ksh53 million bond to pursue an appeal against his conviction.
• He had been sentenced to 12 years in prison in February for irregularly awarding tenders during his tenure.
• His wife, Susan Wangare, was also directed to pay a fine of Ksh500,000 or serve a one-year prison sentence.
