Regional leaders have converged in Nairobi for a crucial Joint East African Community (EAC)–Southern African Development Community (SADC) Co-Chairs’ Meeting to address the fragile peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Co-chaired by EAC Chair President William Ruto and SADC Chair President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the meeting aims to align peace initiatives and reinforce regional coordination.

• The meeting will bring together regional mediators and key stakeholders for a briefing session with the Panel of Facilitators steering peace talks for the eastern DRC.
• Notable arrivals include former Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi, former Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf.
• The new panel of facilitators, replacing Angola’s Luanda Process, includes Sahle-Work Zewde, Catherine Samba-Panza, former Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Kgalema Motlanthe.
