The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has clarified that ongoing logging in Mbooni (Kivale) Forest Station, Makueni County, is authorized and aligns with sustainable forest management practices, addressing concerns raised by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.

• KFS states operations were approved by their Board of Directors per a harvesting plan and are in compliance with the Forest Conservation and Management Act 2016.
• The logging was officially authorized on May 22, 2025, and is also in accordance with a court ruling on October 3, 2024, which lifted the national logging moratorium.
• The activities primarily involve cutting down over-mature plantation species older than 30 years to mitigate ecological risks and are providing short-term employment to local youth.
