The Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives (KNUNM) has announced a conclave in Nairobi on August 8, just hours before launching a nationwide strike at midnight. The union states services in public hospitals will cease until their grievances are addressed.

• The strike is primarily due to county governments allegedly failing to implement the 2024 Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) salary review structure.
• Maurice Opetu, Deputy Secretary General, confirmed the meeting will officially launch the industrial action.
• Nurses also demand the conclusion of stalled Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations and the adoption of career progression guidelines, citing a persistent shortage of nurses leading to compromised service delivery.
