The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), alongside the Kagtiba Institute, has filed a petition in the High Court challenging President William Ruto's nomination of Duncan Oburu Ojwang as the new Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

• The petition argues the nomination violates Article 250(11) of the Constitution, which prohibits the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of an independent commission from being of the same gender, as the current Vice-Chairperson, Dr. Raymond Nyeris, is male.
• The petitioners claim the nomination discriminates against qualified women candidates and disrespected principles of public service.
• They seek nullification of Ojwang's nomination and adherence to constitutional gender requirements.
• The case is scheduled for hearing on September 17.
