The Council of Governors (CoG) states that Kenyan counties are facing severe financial difficulties and challenges in service delivery due to delayed disbursement of funds by the National Treasury.

• Counties are yet to receive their allocations from the 410 billion Shillings allocated in the 2025/26 budget.
• Mutahi Kahiga, CoG vice chairman and Nyeri Governor, highlighted that the system for disbursing money has been locked due to changes by the Treasury.
• The Nyeri Governor emphasized that prompt release of funds, equivalent to 15 percent of the gross domestic product as per the Constitution, is essential for counties to perform effectively.
