Energy Principal Secretary (PS) Alex Wachira has urged security agencies to intensify efforts against electricity vandalism, particularly targeting critical infrastructure like power transformers. The call was made during the commissioning of a rural electrification project in Kandutura Village, Laikipia North Constituency.

• Cases of electricity vandalism are on the rise, contributing to economic sabotage and service disruption.
• The government is considering resuming a stalled $736.6 million (Ksh.95 billion) project to develop and maintain high-voltage power transmission lines and substations.
• The project, previously halted after the cancellation of a deal between Adani Energy Solutions and the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco), aims to improve electricity supply reliability.
• New geothermal power generation from Menengai area and substations in Ol-Kalou and Rumuruti are planned to enhance regional power supply.
• The government intends to reinitiate the transmission project through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
