Kericho Governor Erick Mutai faces an impeachment trial in the Senate over accusations of gross violation of the Constitution and other laws. The charges include massive misappropriation of public funds, abuse of office, and gross misconduct, after a proposal to form a special committee collapsed.

• Mutai is accused of authorizing fictitious payments and inflated supplies worth over Sh85.7 million, including sodas at Sh500 per bottle.
• Sh351 million from the NAVCDP project was allegedly diverted, and his home ward, Chemosot, purportedly received Sh21.7 million from the FLOCCA Fund while other wards received nothing.
• He faces charges of mishandling over Sh9 million raised for victims of the Londiani Junction accident and unlawfully appointing a County Attorney, leading to a personal Sh2 million court fine.
