India's Supreme Court has ordered an investigation into Vantara, a private zoo run by Anant Ambani, son of Asia's richest person, following allegations of illegal animal imports and financial misconduct.

• The facility in Gujarat houses over 200 elephants, 50 bears, 160 tigers, 200 lions, 250 leopards, and 900 crocodiles.
• The investigation will be led by a panel of retired judges to probe alleged unlawful animal acquisition, particularly elephants, other wildlife regulation violations, and money laundering.
• Vantara attracted criticism for housing endangered species on baking flatlands next to an oil refinery complex and reportedly imported approximtaely 39,000 animals in 2024.
