The Government of Kenya has initiated discussions with the World Bank to secure funding for major infrastructure projects, including the redevelopment of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
- The talks also covered the construction of the Lake Victoria Ring Road, estimated to cost Ksh70 billion and spanning 180 kilometers across Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori counties.
- Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir met with the World Bank’s Practice Manager for Transport for the Eastern and Southern Africa region, Binyam Reja, to explore financing options.
- The government plans to leverage Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) for upgrades, despite the cancellation of the Adani deal for JKIA in November last year.
