Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati was arrested and is set to appear in court on Tuesday, September 2, following a summons by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) regarding embezzlement accusations from his time as Busia County boss.
- Wangamati will spend the night in police cells at Kilimani Police Station after presenting himself at Integrity Centre headquarters in Nairobi.
- The EACC received consent from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to charge Wangamati and over 10 associates in a Ksh70 million alleged public funds embezzlement case.
- Another politician, Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, also presented himself to the EACC for allegations of money laundering and unjust enrichment.
