Kirinyaga County is mourning the passing of its first Deputy Governor, Julius Muthike Njiri, who died on Tuesday evening. He served from 2013 to 2017 during Kenya’s inaugural devolved government term.

• Julius Muthike Njiri served as the first Deputy Governor of Kirinyaga County from 2013-2017.
• His passing was confirmed by Governor Anne Waiguru, who described him as a leader who “stood for service, knowledge, and enterprise.”
• He earned a PhD in Business Administration from Miramar California University in 2022, after obtaining multiple degrees from United States International University and the University of Nairobi.
• The cause of death and burial arrangements have not yet been released by his family.
