A new controversy has erupted at Karura Forest as Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko accuses Friends of Karura Forest (FKF) of mismanaging funds and misleading the public. An audit commissioned by the Ministry of Environment reportedly uncovered financial irregularities and non-compliance with revenue management agreements.

• FKF is accused of failing to deposit all forest gate revenues into a Kenya Forest Service (KFS) approved bank account, violating Section 13 of their joint management agreement.
• Chief Conservator Alex Lemarkoko claims FKF has not submitted budgets and work plans to the KFS Board, as required.
• The audit revealed fraudulent financial practices, including manipulation of surplus revenue and non-disclosure of financial records by FKF.
