Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy was named the Betika/SJAK Coach of the Month for August, becoming the third foreign tactician to win the award this year. He guided Kenya to their first-ever quarterfinal appearance in a major competition in 38 years.

• McCarthy received a personalized trophy and Ksh 100,000 from sponsors Betika.
• He led Harambee Stars to victory over Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Zambia by identical 1-0 margins, and drew 1-1 with Angola.
• The last time Kenya went past the quarterfinals was during the 1987 All Africa Games where they lost 1-0 in the final.
