The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced significant overhauls to its motor vehicle inspection and number plate application processes, aiming for increased efficiency and transparency through the eCitizen platform.
- All applications for reflective number plates will now be fully automated and paperless via eCitizen, requiring only a coloured logbook copy and pictures of the plates, with processing within seven working days.
- Motor vehicle inspections will also be booked and paid for on eCitizen for a fee of Kshs. 1,050, eliminating physical forms and utilizing digital tablets for inspectors.
- The internal inspection procedures have been reduced from 25 steps to just nine, cutting wait times to less than 20 minutes, and new safety parameters like KS372:2019 and KS2295:2018 compliance have been introduced.
