Kenya is launching its first dedicated Astro-tourism experience in Samburu County on Sunday, September 7, 2025, coinciding with a total lunar eclipse, commonly known as a “blood moon.” This initiative by Magical Kenya aims to diversify tourism and position the country as a premier destination for astronomy enthusiasts, leveraging its clear equatorial skies and minimal light pollution.

• The total lunar eclipse, or “blood moon,” will begin at 8:30 pm and last for 82 minutes.
• Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano will lead the launch event at Sopa Lodge in Samburu National Reserve.
• The new Astro-tourism product in Samburu will include guided night sky tours, astrophotography expeditions, educational workshops, and starlit camp experiences.
