Following the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Africa's largest hydropower project, Kenya has announced its readiness to sign a new power purchase agreement with Ethiopia. President William Ruto praised the dam as a symbol of Africa's capacity for self-development and expressed Kenya's keenness to expand its energy partnership with Ethiopia.

• Kenya aims to import additional hydropower from GERD to boost its energy security and reach 100 percent clean energy by 2030.
• The GERD, built at a cost of $5 billion, will eventually produce 5,150 megawatts of electricity.
