A Kenyan man, identified as Okindo, has exposed a harrowing human trafficking operation that lured job seekers from Kenya to Asia under the guise of employment, only to force them into forced labor at scam centers in Myanmar. He was one of many victims coerced into perpetrating online cryptocurrency scams after paying a fraudulent recruitment agency Ksh200,000.

• Okindo was trafficked to a cyber-slavery compound near the Thai-Myanmar border, run by a Chinese criminal gang, where he and others were forced to run online scams.
• Victims endured severe abuse, including physical assaults, food deprivation, electric shocks, and long work hours, until Okindo's release in April 2025 following international intervention.
• Since Myanmar's military coup in 2021, scam centers have proliferated, with the UN estimating 120,000 people trapped in forced online fraud operations.
