Small-scale tea farmers in Kenya are awaiting the declaration of their annual bonus payment, expected to be significantly lower than 2024's Sh89.2 billion. The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) directors will meet from September 22 to 26, 2025, to finalize the figures, facing challenges in explaining the reduced payout to farmers.

• Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) reported that between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, factories processed 558,425,345 kilos of tea, a decrease from 619,920,944 kilos in the same period last year.
• Farmers in Murang'a and Nyeri counties have already engaged their directors regarding the low prices at the Mombasa Tea Auction.
• The first bonus declarations are anticipated from factories including Mogogosiek, Kebol, and Boito on September 22.
• Solomon Mwai, a resident of Ragati factory, and John Mwaura from Makomboki, expressed dissatisfaction with the explanations for low prices.
• Enos Njeru, a KTDA board member in Embu, has advised farmers on financial management and budgeting ahead of the bonus declaration.
