An ambush by the Pakistani Taliban in northwest Pakistan on Saturday resulted in the deaths of 12 soldiers, marking one of the deadliest attacks in months in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

• 12 security personnel were killed and four wounded when a military convoy was attacked with heavy weapons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's South Waziristan district.
• The attack was claimed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP), a group closely linked with the Afghan Taliban, with Pakistan accusing the Interim Afghan Government of failing to prevent militants from using its territory for attacks.
• Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army chief, General Asim Munir, attended the funerals of the fallen soldiers, with Pakistan recently having repatriated over 2.1 million Afghans.
