Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has addressed the failed impeachment attempt by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), revealing that interventions from President William Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Odinga ultimately saved his position.

• The impeachment bid was prompted by issues including stalled bursary allocations and slow implementation of ward-based programmes.
• Sakaja cited a ban on bursary allocation as the cause for the delay and attributed slow project implementation to delayed funds from the national government.
• Raila Odinga met with ODM-allied Nairobi MCAs, persuading them to suspend the impeachment for one month, while President Ruto cautioned UDA MCAs against the ouster motion.
• The MCAs had gathered over 70 signatures, needing 82 to table an official impeachment motion.
