Members of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) have initiated a strike at several Kenyan universities, including the University of Nairobi (UoN) and Maseno University, despite the National Treasury releasing Ksh.2.5 billion for the implementation of Phase 2 of the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).

• UASU lecturers argue that their financial demands, including Ksh.7.9 billion in arrears from the 2017 CBA, remain unmet, leading to the strike.
• UASU Chapter Secretary at UoN, Dr. Maloba Wekesa, stated the government has failed to honor past agreements despite court rulings.
• The strike has spread to other institutions such as Egerton and Kisii Universities, and lecturers vow not to return to classes until their dues are paid.
