This follows comments by Meru Governor, Isaac Mutuma, and reports linking the plan to an alleged directive from President William Ruto.

• GBM is concerned about the proposed development in a gazetted public forest amidst Kenya's annual deforestation rate of 84,716 hectares.
• The petition asks if the ministry has approved such a plan, the legal framework, public participation conducted, and environmental impact assessments.
• GBM also seeks to know if alternative public lands in Meru County were considered for the project.
