M-Pesa services will be unavailable for three hours on Monday, September 22, 2025, as Safaricom PLC conducts a system upgrade. This maintenance will affect all M-Pesa services, including airtime purchases.

The upgrade, taking place from 12:30 AM to 3:30 AM (EAT), is described as the most significant since 2015.
Safaricom CEO Dr Peter Ndegwa stated that the upgrade introduces Fintech 2.0, a next-generation platform to strengthen resilience and expand capacity.
The new M-PESA Core will expand capacity from 4,500 to 6,000 transactions per second, with the potential to reach 12,000 transactions.
