Safaricom has launched Fintech 2.0, a significant upgrade to its M-PESA mobile money platform, incorporating AI, improving reliability, and expanding cross-border payment capabilities. This transformation aims to handle increasing transaction volumes and position M-PESA as a leading fintech platform.

• The upgrade increases transaction processing capacity from 4,500 transactions per second (Tsp) to 6,000 Tsp.
• Chief Financial Services Officer Esther Waititu stated the system needs to process "well beyond the one billion transactions we’re handling today."
• The migration to Fintech 2.0 is scheduled from 00:30 to 03:30 on Monday, 22nd September.
• AI will enable real-time fraud detection, personalized services, and enhanced transaction speed.
