Craft Silicon has launched TouristTap, a mobile application that transforms NFC-enabled smartphones into secure point-of-sale devices, enabling international visitors in Kenya to pay with Visa or Mastercard easily.

• The app aims to ease payments for tourists in Kenya, allowing cashless transactions at locations ranging from Maasai markets to five-star hotels.
• Kamal Budhabatti, Head of Product Dreams and Designs at Craft Silicon, highlighted that the app leverages NFC technology for direct payments to mobile money wallets and bank accounts.
• TouristTap is certified by Visa and Mastercard, compliant with PCI-DSS standards, and uses PIN-on-Glass technology to ensure secure, encrypted transactions.
• Card payments in Kenya rose to Sh538.5 billion in 2024, according to the Central Bank of Kenya, underscoring the growing shift towards cashless transactions.
• The app is currently available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, with plans for expansion to other African tourism hubs.
