The Kenyan government is implementing urgent measures to distribute relief food in arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), targeting over 1.7 million people facing potential worsening conditions due to projected below-average rainfall between October and December.

• Over 1.7 million people are expected to benefit from the food distribution program starting next week.
• Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku met with officials from 23 ASAL counties, the Kenya Meteorological Department, and the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) to coordinate the national response.
• The Ministry of Special Programmes will lead the relief operation, emphasizing transparent and fair distribution through National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), while also developing a National Relief Assistance Policy to improve efficiency and accountability.
