At the InsurTech Forum Nairobi 2025 (ITFN), African insurance leaders urged the industry to abandon outdated systems and embrace digital transformation, including Artificial Intelligence, to improve efficiency and expand access to insurance.

Only 1% of insurance operations in Africa currently use AI, but this is projected to reach 80% in the next five years.
The forum, themed "From Legacy to AI: Actionable Next Steps," was convened by Caava Group in partnership with the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) and the Insurance Institute of Kenya (IIK).
Ayisi Makatiani, CEO of Caava Group, stated that the debate has shifted from questioning the need for AI to focusing on its implementation.
Urvi Patel, Consulting Leader at Deloitte East Africa, emphasized that partnerships and ecosystem approaches are critical for African insurers to remain competitive.
