The Russian Embassy in Kenya has denied claims that a Russian citizen, detained by Kenyan police for allegedly recruiting Kenyans to fight in Ukraine, was acting on behalf of the Russian government. This development unfolded as Kenyan police rescued 22 individuals awaiting documents to travel to Russia.

The Russian citizen was interrogated at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday, September 25, and departed Kenya on Friday, September 26, according to the embassy.
The police reportedly rescued the 22 individuals from a residential building in Athi River, where they were allegedly promised job opportunities in Russia but intended to be sent to fight in Ukraine.
The Russian Embassy stated it provided necessary legal assistance to the individual and confirmed he was never employed by Russian governmental bodies or the Nairobi embassy.
