Kenya's traditional staple, ugali, is experiencing a significant decline in popularity as rice and chapati gain favor in Kenyan homes. New data reveals a drastic shift in national eating habits, with maize consumption plummeting.

• Maize consumption dropped by over 600,000 metric tonnes in 2024.
• The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) reported a decrease of 625,820 metric tonnes in maize consumption.
