Former Chesumei Member of Parliament and Boston Marathon winner, Elijah Lagat, has died at the age of 60 after a short illness. His death was confirmed on Tuesday, September 30, and mourned by Nandi Governor.

• Lagat was a member of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse Authority (NACADA) Board before his passing.
• He served as a legislator for Emgwen Constituency from 2007 and then as the first MP for Chesumei Constituency from 2013.
• Lagat achieved international recognition by winning the Boston Marathon in 2000 with a time of 2:07:41, and also the 27th Berlin Marathon.
