The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has issued a warning to businesses involved in the sale and transportation of forest products regarding an increase in fake movement permits, which could lead to apprehension and impounding of goods.

• KFS clarified on Tuesday, September 30, that legitimate permits are only issued after visiting a County Forest Conservator's office and presenting a verified **Certificate of Origin**.
• In July 2024, new regulations increased the cost of some movement permits; for instance, a single transport permit for imported timber soared to Ksh25,570 from Ksh2,000.
• All official fees, including Ksh30 per bag of charcoal and a 16 percent VAT, are now payable through the e-Citizen platform.
