Former NCPB officials to stand trial in Ksh.209 million fake fertilizer case..

Two former officials of the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), along with a businessman and two companies, are set to face trial for allegedly defrauding the public of Ksh.209 million through the sale of substandard fertilizer.

The accused allegedly passed off soil amendments as fertilizer between March 2022 and March 2024.
The individuals charged include Joseph Kiplangat Ngetich, former NCPB Corporate Secretary; John Mbaya Matiri, former chair of the Business Development and Advisory Committee; and businessman Josiah Kariuki Kimani.
Companies involved are Fifty-One Capitals Limited and SBL Innovate Manufacturers.
Former NCPB Managing Director, Joseph Muna Kimote, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The case is scheduled for mention on October 16, 2025.
