A primary school teacher in Kilifi County has been arrested following the death of a 15-year-old pupil, Anestine Dzidza Tunje, allegedly due to injuries sustained from corporal punishment. The incident occurred at Gongoni Primary School on September 19, 2025.

• The pupil complained of persistent headaches after being disciplined and died on September 25, 2025, at Kilifi County Hospital.
• The arrested teacher is identified as Mr. Ian Tembo, who allegedly administered corporal punishment to Grade 8 students.
• Investigators plan to seek additional court orders to detain Mr. Tembo as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) continues to investigate the link between the punishment and the pupil's death.
