The status of Kenya's police contingent in Haiti is uncertain following the establishment of a new United Nations-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF). Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, stated that a decision on whether the 800 Kenyan officers will support the new mission awaits direction from the National Security Council (NSC).

The GSF will consist of over 5,500 security personnel, replacing the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the GSF, noting it addresses underfunding and capacity issues experienced by the MSS, which began on January 1, 2024.
The new mission will have a stronger mandate, predictable resources, and run for an initial 12 months, with direct support from a UN Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH).
